Presentation - Computer Workshop

In Australia a growing number of teachers in primary and secondary have undertaken training and moved to implement the 3D multi-user virtual world Quest Atlantis (http://www.questatlantis.org) into the curriculum planning in their schools. This workshop session offers hands-on exploration of Quest Atlantis and the training session will count towards full qualification for participants to later use the program in their schools. The presenters will highlight the motivational, curricular and transformative value of learning within this rich 3D virtual world and a diverse global community.
There are now some exciting new and free programming languages for teachers to use and explore in the classroom. This session will give teachers some hands-on experience and wet their appetite. Scratch is a tile-based visual programming environment that lets kids make games, animated stories and interactive art. It is very easy language to start students off with. Alice is an open-source, graphical software program that allows users to learn the very basics of programming concepts while making 3-D animations.
During this hands-on session participants will be shown how using edna will help them integrate IT into their curriculum to add value and engage students. Suitable for the Early Childhood and School sector, participants will be given an overview of the free services edna provides and learn the basic navigation of the edna site. Participants will learn how to limit their search results to find quality assured, web quests, images, podcasts, interactive content, videos and games through the quality collection and related sites.
Teachers will be provided with the opportunity to use the Notebook Software to create a lesson that can be used within their own classroom. No experience is required for attendees. They will be guided through this process step by step. Topics covered will include Touch, Write & Save as well as other features that are available in Notebook such as Area Capture, Cloning & Ink Aware. This workshop is designed for teachers to be introduced to the Notebook software so they can create a lesson of their own.
