Chinese University Students

There has been unprecedented growth in the number of Chinese students taking online courses. However, little has been published about their attitudes towards online learning. The present paper reports a pilot study which examined the influence of a number of factors (gender, prior experience, reasons for taking online courses etc.) on the attitudes of Chinese students towards online learning. An initial sample of 52 law students from a northern Chinese university was surveyed via a questionnaire followed by interviews with some of these students and the teaching staff. These studies found that the majority of the students had positive attitudes towards online learning but more than half of these students still preferred the traditional classroom learning. It was found that gender and prior experience with online learning had no significant influence on students
